Hello to everyone and hello to June! We’ve got lots of exciting news happening here at One Girl, and we can’t wait to share them with the rest of the 0G family. First off, welcoming June also means welcoming our two new interns for the summer: Jenny and Daniela!
Jenny is a rising senior at Parsons The New School for Design, where she majors in illustration and minors in fashion communication. Growing up in Hong Kong, Jenny enjoyed volunteering at elderly centers and elementary schools, where she was the head organizer of all arts and crafts activities. Her most rewarding experience was traveling solo to Nepal in the summer of 2017, where she worked as an Arts teacher at Orchid Garden Nepal—an NGO in Kathmandu. Passionate about graphic storytelling and topics like women’s empowerment and climate change, Jenny hopes to combine her skills and interests to find a profession in designing for social impact, and saw One Girl as the perfect avenue to jumpstart her journey to making a difference through art!. In her downtime, Jenny loves to relax at the park, go to (many) indie rock concerts, explore brunch spots, and doodle for her freelance projects. Check out her work on IG: @jennylauart
Daniela is a rising senior at New York University majoring in Journalism and Politics, with a minor in Spanish. The daughter of a now-retired member of the Armed Forces, Daniela spent time in various parts of the world, developing an interest in all human rights. Her love of knowledge inspired her to pursue a journalism degree to further the spread objective news. Previously, she has worked at the entertainment startup The Knockturnal and at Newsweek Media. Both of her parents are immigrants to the United States from Ecuador, so immigrant rights hold a special place in her heart. She currently works as an interpreter for the NYU School of Law Immigrant Rights Clinic, communicating from Spanish to English between law students who do not speak Spanish and their clients who do not speak English. With a desire to help people, Daniela is excited to contribute her love of writing, her experience in media, and her passion for human rights to One Girl this summer.

Now that we’ve introduced you to our lovely interns, we can start spilling all of the juicy details that happened this past weekend. You may or may not have seen, but on Sunday June 3rd, One Girl hosted its very first Meet and Greet!! We admit we were super nervous about hosting our first get-together, especially because what was meant to be an outdoor picnic turned into a very last minute indoor mixer—but it could not have worked out better! There were fifteen ladies in total who were at the event. We started off by gathering in a tight-knit circle, where we went around the room sharing icebreakers and describing our personal backgrounds. The conversation grew deeper when our founder, Meaghan Jarensky, gave an incredibly inspiring speech about how One Girl really came to be. We even had a few ladies who shared empowering stories on campaigns that they founded themselves! Amazing! It was truly a beautiful and enjoyable environment where we got to know each other and share our ideals and passions. Seeing as it was a huge success, we can’t wait to host more events like this in the future. Stay tuned!
