ICON AWARDS

The Compassion Award

In honor of Jane Goodall, recognizes individuals who lead with empathy, kindness, and understanding. This honor celebrates those who embody One Girl’s value of compassion – recognizing the shared humanity in all individuals and striving to make a positive difference in their lives.

We honor Dr. Jane Goodall, whose revolutionary work with chimpanzees transformed our understanding of compassion itself. Goodall’s approach—observing without interfering, connecting without imposing—demonstrated deep respect for others that lies at the heart of compassionate action. Her expansion from scientific research to environmental conservation and youth education through her Roots & Shoots program exemplifies how compassion naturally extends beyond its initial focus. Goodall reminds us that compassion is both a feeling and a practice—a commitment to understanding others deeply and acting from that understanding to create positive change, a cornerstone of One Girl’s vision for female empowerment.

The Conscious Leadership Award

In honor of Grace Lee Boggs, celebrates those who lead with mindfulness, authenticity, and purpose. This award honors individuals who embody One Girl’s commitment to mindful, authentic leadership that catalyzes positive change.

We are proud to celebrate Grace Lee Boggs, whose remarkable journey as a Chinese American activist at the forefront of the Black Power and Civil Rights movements exemplifies conscious leadership at its finest. As a philosopher, writer, and community organizer, Boggs defied cultural boundaries and demonstrated extraordinary courage in building bridges between diverse communities. Her decards of work in Detroit helped reshape urban activism while challenging conventional thinking about race, class, and social justice. Boggs’ unique ability to connect different movements and communities demonstrated the power of conscious leadership to transcend divides and create coalitions for meaningful change. Her legacy of cross-cultural solidarity and community-centered activism perfectly embodies One Girl’s belief that intentional leadership begins within and creates ripples of transformation that extend far beyond expected boundaries.

The Diversity Award

In honor of Audre Lorde, celebrates individuals who champion the richness of human experience and create spaces where different perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds can flourish. This honor recognizes those who embody One Girl’s commitment to creating an inclusive environment where every voice is valued and every individual voice can thrive.

We proudly honor Audre Lorde, self-described “Black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet,” whose fearless exploration of identity stands as a testament to the power of embracing our whole selves. Lorde’s writing and activism challenged single-story narratives and invited us to recognize our intersecting identities as sources of strength rather than division. By celebrating Lorde, we honor her courage in creating language for experiences previously silenced and her insistence that our differences strengthen rather than threaten our collective fabric. Her legacy perfectly aligns with One Girl’s belief that diverse perspectives create richer conversations, deeper understanding, and more innovative approaches to the challenges we face together.
