Grow your movement.

As a collective, we are on the ground doing advocacy work. We have worked with our advocates, social change agents, and global citizens to discover causes that light them up and start campaigns of their mission-driven interests.

When many of us think about activism, we imagine that we must act alone and embrace the traditional role of a leader who is in charge and takes on a lot of responsibility. While this may be true for some, in fact, learning how to function and work together collaboratively is actually a more powerful, effective, and sustainable way to create change.

Collaboration can serve to show us our habitual, comfortable roles in groups and also allow us an opportunity to try different roles, thereby gaining greater perspective on the responsibilities of each role. It is a model of sharing that challenges many of our learned assumptions and expectations of ourselves and each other.

Here are some of the campaigns our members are working on

E-Impersonation Prevention Act Campaign:

The In Plain Site Campaign pushed for the passage of the E-Impersonation Act, Bill S5871A, which would safeguard people from cyberbullying and online harassment in New York State. The bill was introduced into the NY State Senate in 2016, to elevate the crimes of cyberbullying and online impersonation - with intent to harm - to class D felonies. One Girl is now working to take the E-Impersonation Act further, including safeguards against harassment through Artificial Intelligence (AI) and new technologies designed to impersonate people digitally.   This bill, versions of which are intended for introduction and passage on both the State and Federal levels, will prohibit the use of AI impersonation in New York State and throughout the nation.

SUDC Awareness Campaign

After One Girl Founder Meaghan Barakett’s son Lincoln tragically passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, One Girl partnered with the Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC) Foundation on a mission to raise awareness about SUDC within the medical community. Our focus is to foster an open dialogue and share insights that could potentially enhance protocols in the future.

Doula Accessibility Campaign:

One Girl has embarked on a campaign to provide afterbirth Doulas to parents regardless of their economic status. Our goal is to facilitate a Doula Triage service, which mandates the initial provision of information on afterbirth Doula care to mothers and parents and further provides them with the option of opting into a program that facilitates Doula consultation and services at their homes or via an online platform.
